Meta ads for a store: Advantage+
Advantage+ sales campaigns are Meta's (Facebook and Instagram) modern ad format for sales: the audience, budget and placements are largely chosen by the algorithm. It replaced the old Advantage+ shopping campaigns, and it has fewer restrictions for the advertiser.
What changed
According to Meta's developer documentation: - Advantage+ sales is an "updated, simplified" version of the old Advantage+ shopping campaigns. The old campaigns can't be created through the API from version 25.0, and campaigns that haven't been migrated become non-editable from version 26.0 (Meta for Developers). - A campaign can now have several ad sets. - There is no placement targeting and no exclusions at the ad set level; the budget is set at the campaign level. - The "share of budget for existing customers" setting does not exist in the new campaigns. To get close to it, the documentation advises two ad sets: one with an audience of your existing customers, the other with them excluded. - It is recommended to hand the audience to Advantage+ audience, or to set nothing apart from geography.
What it means for a store
- Control is through creative and data, not narrow targeting. Meta's documentation doesn't set creative limits; the recommendations of "8–15 creatives" or "5–7 days" come from agency blogs and are unconfirmed, so treat them as guidelines.
- Separate new and existing demand. There is no built-in restriction, so the share of budget going to existing customers becomes something worth checking in the report. The two-ad-set method is described in Meta's documentation.
- The feed and the site. Ads in a store rely on the catalog; feed quality matters here just as much as in Google (Product feed).
- Privacy and data. Sending events to the ad account depends on the user's consent and the tracking setup: see Server-side tracking and Consent Mode.
Reporting changes from January 2026
From January 12, 2026, Meta removed the "7-day view" and "28-day view" windows from the Ads Insights API; what remains is 1-day view, 1-day click, 7-day click, 28-day click and 1-day engaged view. History is also limited for some breakdowns: 13 months for unique counters and hourly breakdowns, 6 months for frequency ones (Meta for Developers, 2025). The consequence: reports compared against the old windows may show fewer conversions. This is a change in reporting, not necessarily a real drop in sales. More in Attribution.
How to check whether the ads work
A Meta report is not proof. The platform can claim buyers who would have purchased without the ad. Comparative testing (conversion lift or geo tests) shows the incremental effect: Haus gives an example where Meta reports 100 conversions while the control group produces 40 anyway, so only 60 are real (Haus). The example is illustrative, not market statistics. More in Incrementality.
Ukrainian specifics
According to Promodo, in H1 2025 "paid channels became more effective" in most categories, and cost per click rose (medicines +53%, fashion +25%) (Promodo, 2025). Meta isn't singled out there. There are no fresh public benchmarks for Meta ads specifically in Ukrainian e-commerce.
Common mistakes
- Many small campaigns with little data.
- The same image in different sizes instead of different ideas.
- Not separating existing customers.
- Comparing Meta's ROAS with the Google report and GA4 without understanding the difference in windows and models.
- Drawing conclusions after 2–3 days.
